Deputy Manager – Dedicated Time to Lead and Develop
NG12, Nottinghamshire | 4-bed EBD Children’s Home
Deputy Manager: £33,737.60–£37,856
Trainee Deputy Manager: £31,366
40 hours per week
A Deputy role with time to actually manage.
Our client is looking for an experienced residential childcare professional to join a 4-bed home supporting young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD).
This opportunity offers something different from a traditional shift-heavy Deputy position. The role is predominantly managerial and off-shift, giving you dedicated time to lead your team, complete supervisions, oversee quality and work alongside the Registered Manager.
You’ll still complete one shift per week, keeping you connected with the young people, the staff team and day-to-day life within the home.
For experienced Seniors and Team Leaders who are ready for more responsibility but not quite ready for the full Deputy position, there are also Trainee Deputy Manager opportunities at £31,366.
About the Role:
As Deputy Manager, you’ll work closely with the Registered Manager and wider team to support the effective running of the home.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Supporting the Registered Manager with the day-to-day leadership of the home
• Completing staff supervisions and supporting ongoing development
• Providing guidance and consistent leadership to the wider staff team
• Supporting safeguarding, risk management and quality assurance
• Contributing to therapeutic care planning and positive outcomes for young people
• Helping maintain standards in line with Ofsted Quality Standards
• Supporting reflective practice and a consistent approach across the team
• Completing one shift per week to remain visible and involved within the home
Importantly, you’re not expected to fit all of this around a full shift pattern. The structure provides dedicated management time, with the Registered Manager and wider leadership structure there to provide support and shared responsibility.
Sleep-ins are not expected. If you would like to complete them, they are currently paid separately at £75 per sleep.
What Makes This Opportunity Different:
Moving into greater responsibility should come with the time and support to do the job properly.
This role has been structured to give the Deputy Manager genuine space to lead, rather than simply adding management responsibilities on top of an already busy rota.
You can expect:
• A predominantly managerial and off-shift Deputy position
• Dedicated time for staff supervisions, development and quality oversight
• A clear working relationship with the Registered Manager
• One shift per week to maintain meaningful involvement with young people
• No expectation to complete sleep-ins
• Level 5 progression and continued professional development
• A clear pathway towards becoming a Registered Manager
The focus is on developing sustainable leadership within the home, with responsibility shared rather than leaving one person to carry everything alone.
Trainee Deputy Manager Opportunities:
If you’re currently working as a Senior Residential Support Worker, Team Leader or in a similar role, you may be interested in the Trainee Deputy Manager route.

This will include:
• Taking on additional responsibilities within the home
• Completing staff supervisions
• Supporting and guiding colleagues
• Developing your understanding of management responsibilities
• Working alongside experienced leadership
• Progressing towards a full Deputy Manager position
It’s a supported way to move forward without being expected to make the jump into full management responsibility overnight.

• Relevant Level 3 childcare qualification or above
• Experience working within residential childcare
• Confidence supervising, supporting and developing staff
• Good understanding of safeguarding and supporting young people with EBD

You’ll ideally have experience at Senior, Team Leader or a similar level within residential childcare and feel ready to begin taking on greater responsibility.
You’ll be comfortable developing skills in staff supervision and leadership while continuing to learn from the Registered Manager and wider management team.
Personal Qualities:
• Calm and consistent in your leadership approach
• Emotionally resilient and reflective
• Confident supporting and developing other people

Why Join:

For experienced Deputies, you’ll have dedicated management time while remaining connected to young people through one shift each week.
For aspiring Deputies, the £31,366 Trainee Deputy Manager position provides a structured opportunity to build leadership experience, take on supervisions and prepare for the next stage of your career.
And for those looking further ahead, there is a clear pathway towards Registered Manager.
