Senior Residential Support Worker – Lead Shifts, Support People, Make a Difference
NG12 & NG13, Nottinghamshire
Therapeutic Children’s Residential Homes
£30,284.80–£30,825.60 basic salary
£75 per sleep-in, averaging 2 per week
Our client, a therapeutic residential childcare provider, is looking for Senior Residential Support Workers to join its children’s homes across NG12 and NG13.
This is an opportunity for experienced residential childcare professionals who are ready to take more of a lead within the home, while remaining closely involved in the day-to-day care and support of young people.
You’ll lead shifts, guide colleagues and contribute to staff supervisions, but you won’t be expected to manage everything alone. You’ll work alongside the Registered Manager, Deputy Manager and wider team, with clear support when situations need to be escalated.
Salary & Sleep-ins:
There are two salary points depending on your qualification progress:
• £30,284.80 for those who have completed 75% of their relevant NVQ
• £30,825.60 once NVQ qualified
• £75 per sleep-in, with an average of 2 sleep-ins per week
With two sleep-ins per week on average, this provides additional earning potential on top of your basic salary.
About the Role:
As a Senior Residential Support Worker, you’ll play an important role in providing consistency for young people while helping the wider staff team deliver therapeutic, child-focused care.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Planning, managing and leading shifts, ensuring young people are safe, supported and meaningfully engaged
• Helping ensure each young person’s therapeutic care and placement plan is followed consistently
• Providing guidance and day-to-day support to Residential Support Workers
• Undertaking or contributing to staff supervisions and supporting colleagues with their development
• Acting as a keyworker and building positive, consistent relationships with young people
• Supporting education and encouraging young people’s engagement and attendance
• Contributing to reports and meetings with professionals involved in a young person’s care
• Ensuring young people are supported to have a voice in decisions and meetings affecting them
• Leading effective handovers and ensuring important information is communicated across shifts
• Supporting safeguarding, risk management and professional practice within the home
• Raising concerns with the Registered Manager or on-call management when additional support is required
A Therapeutic Approach:
The provider places therapeutic care at the centre of its work.
As a Senior, you’ll help ensure therapeutic plans are understood and followed by the team, creating the consistency young people need from the adults around them.
The role is about more than overseeing a shift. You’ll help create an environment where young people feel safe, heard and supported, while giving colleagues the guidance they need to deliver good care consistently.
What Makes This Opportunity Different:
Stepping into a Senior position should give you the opportunity to develop as a leader without taking you away from the young people you support.
You’ll have:
• Greater responsibility for leading and coordinating shifts
• Opportunities to develop staff supervision and leadership experience
• Support from the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager
• A therapeutic model that provides a clear approach to supporting young people
• Opportunities for continued training and professional development
• A natural progression route towards Deputy Manager and wider leadership opportunities
It’s a strong next step for someone who enjoys direct work with young people but is also ready to begin developing other members of the team.
About You:
Experience & Qualifications:
We’re looking for people who have a good understanding of residential childcare and are comfortable beginning to take greater responsibility within a home.
You’ll ideally have:
• Experience working within children’s residential care
• Progress towards, or completion of, a relevant residential childcare NVQ
• Experience supporting young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs
• A good understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
• Confidence guiding and supporting other members of staff
• The ability to lead a shift calmly and consistently
Personal Qualities:
• Calm and dependable when situations become challenging
• Emotionally resilient and reflective
• Able to provide clear guidance without losing a supportive approach
• Comfortable taking responsibility while knowing when to involve management
• Consistent and professional in your approach
• Genuinely child-focused and committed to helping young people progress
Why Join:
This is a role where you can develop your leadership skills without losing the direct relationships with young people that make residential childcare rewarding.
You’ll have the opportunity to lead shifts, support colleagues, undertake supervisions and contribute to therapeutic care, while continuing to learn from an established management structure.
For people with longer-term management ambitions, the experience gained at Senior level can also provide a valuable foundation for progression towards Trainee Deputy, Deputy Manager and beyond.
Most importantly, you’ll be joining a provider that recognises good residential care comes from consistent teams who feel supported to do their jobs well.
How to Apply:
If you’re already working at Senior level, or you’re an experienced Residential Support Worker ready to discuss taking on greater responsibility, we’d be happy to have an informal conversation.
